Getting from Los Angeles International Airport to Los Angeles

Los Angeles, United States

Los Angeles International Airport has no direct rail link to the city centre as of 2025. The LAX FlyAway bus and rideshare are the most practical options; the future Metro K Line connection is under construction.

LAX FlyAway Bus

Non-stop coach service from LAX to Union Station (Downtown LA), Westwood/UCLA, Van Nuys and Hollywood. Pick-up is from the lower level (Arrivals) outside each terminal. Purchase tickets at the FlyAway ticketing kiosks.

Journey time

30–75 min (traffic dependent)

Cost

$9.75 to Union Station

Tip: Pre-purchase tickets online to avoid queues.

Rideshare (Uber / Lyft)

LAX requires rideshare pick-up at the LAX-it lot, a short shuttle ride from all terminals. Follow the purple 'LAX-it' signs on the lower Arrivals level.

Journey time

20–60 min

Cost

$30–$65 to Downtown/Hollywood

Taxi

Licensed taxis operate from the LAX-it lot. Join the same queue as rideshare (different lane). Metered fare applies.

Journey time

20–60 min

Cost

$45–$70+ to Downtown

Metro Bus + Rail

Free LAX shuttle (Lot C / Green Line) connects to the Aviation/LAX Green Line station. From there take the Green Line east and transfer to other Metro lines for various destinations.

Journey time

60–90 min to Downtown

Cost

$1.75

Tip: Cheap but slow. Best for travelers near Metro lines (Culver City, Crenshaw, etc.).
