Getting from Hong Kong International Airport to Hong Kong

Hong Kong International Airport is on Lantau Island, 34 km from Central Hong Kong. The Airport Express train is the gold standard — fast, frequent and goes directly to Kowloon and Hong Kong stations.

Airport Express (MTR)

The Airport Express runs from HKIA station to Tsing Yi, Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui adjacent) and Hong Kong (Central). Journey every 10 minutes, starting from 05:50 to 00:48. The train also offers in-town check-in at Hong Kong and Kowloon stations.

Tip: Buy a round-trip ticket — it's cheaper. Octopus card holders get a small discount.

Cityflyer Bus

Franchised buses (routes E11, A11, E21, etc.) connect the airport to Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, and New Territories. Slower than the AEL but significantly cheaper.

Taxi

Red (urban), green (New Territories) and blue (Lantau) taxis are available at the Taxi Pick-up Point outside Arrivals Hall. Red taxis go to most city destinations.

Ferry (Hong Kong–Macau Ferry Terminal)

A cross-boundary ferry at the airport connects directly to Macau and Guangzhou without entering Hong Kong proper. Useful for travellers who need to travel onwards.
